Hankie hoardings

I keep finding them; colorful, bordered, never-used old timer cotton squares. I have quite a pile now and will be stringing them up for bunting soon. But I can’t decide whether to hang them diagonally, or a squares. what do you think? Here are two examples: Square-hung and diagonal hung.

Thrifty couture

School clothes and larger sizes are coming up in the thrift store search. This week I found three yards of linen fabric for $3. Shirts from H&M and Target, and jeans from Gap and Children’s Place. All for $9.47. My girl wears size 8-10 at the waist, but I have to tailor off 2-3 inches at the bottom. And she isn’t really chubby! I love these colors.

Mail fun

Mail is my favorite. Sending is the best, but receiving is pretty great too. I love old fashioned letters and hand wrapped goodies and postcards made of cereal boxes. I love the process of getting the mail from the box and sorting it and putting each bit in its place. I even love our grumpy and slow post office.

I thought this was a box of breath mints. But it was this little old tin…

…full of lovely old buttons! What a perfect surprise, thank you friend!

Real mail is completely wonderful; a way to send someone tangible love without having to buy a plane ticket. It is very personal to send and heartwarming to receive. Go drop a postcard in the mail and make someone’s day!

I bought them for the bones

Two items to stash and finish off later. A little owl trivet, very common. And a huge lamp shade, the bones of which will show up again here someday. $.99 and $5.

Spools

These are so pretty. I took the old string off, and am waiting for inspiration, probably will fill them with velvet ribbon and give them as gifts or something. They are about 4in high.

Gleanings

Here’s what I found this week. A leather dress-up belt for kids fancy outfits, $.50. A round framed tile that I will probably repaint with something else and hang. I like the shape, $3. And the lid only for my tangerine Pyrex dish.¬† I’ve been seeking to find it for a while now, $.50.

Hanky bunting stash

March 28, 2012 § 1 Comment

I once passed up a stack of vintage hankies and never again will that happen. These are the first two from which I hope to made bunting and a myriad of other project to come. Hankies at thrift store are rarely used. How could you blow your nose on such prettiness?
