Flea market finds

For my second trip to Mile High this summer, I got a blissful few hours of solitude and a selection of fun finds. A few more wooden hangers for the closet. $2. Some day I will have enough to get rid of the plastic ones.

A dollar fan.  How to bring joy to a 6 year old in two seconds flat.

$1 for this set of stamps. Still in the $16 packaging. Endlessly useful for school and creative activities.

Keens, always the keens. Little ones for the little one. $4.

We have been on the lookout for trains. The 4 year old turns five soon and this will be his gift. This box is huge! And very full of train building fun for years to come. $20.

And 3 vintage Fisher Price play stages. I had these. I loved these! $13. The car elevator still goes up and the school bell still rings. Now I’m in the market for the little cars and people.

The workspace- and ladder chandelier

So the ladder I got this weekend, I cut it in half. Cringe! It was hard to do, so beautiful it was. But the two halves are perfectly at home in new places. I sanded them and wiped them down and put on a sealer. I hung one above my worktable, and I thought I’d show you this space. Because it is my favorite. 27 square feet of lovely color and inspired order that makes creating easy. The room is on the main floor right by the living room and 15 feet from the kitchen. So convenient. I always work to place the making space and the kids play and school room right in the main living area. Neither of them works well in the basement or a bedroom. Soon the ladder will be hung with half done projects and inspiration ideas.

That is a cape in progress.

And lest you think all is perfect, here is the other two-thirds of the room. Theology library, music room, electronic and computer workstation, waiting to be craigslisted repository, and ironing spot. I’m working on that blank wall. Do you see that soup crock on a plaque? My husband is a really good cook and won that chili award. His interests are so varied. He needs a wall of memories and appreciations.

I snapped this up yesterday. A 12 foot orchard ladder. Just wait til you see what it becomes! Lovely smudgy thing.

Pretty much my favorite. $5 from a VA thrift store. Currently used as a side table in the master bedroom, but so many uses are possible!

Bag addition

Thrifted for $3, this bag appears never used and is the fourth in my collection of the same bag in different patterns. Someday I’ll probably give them away as favors. The colors and size make them great for little girls.

Mail fun

Mail is my favorite. Sending is the best, but receiving is pretty great too. I love old fashioned letters and hand wrapped goodies and postcards made of cereal boxes. I love the process of getting the mail from the box and sorting it and putting each bit in its place. I even love our grumpy and slow post office.

I thought this was a box of breath mints. But it was this little old tin…

…full of lovely old buttons! What a perfect surprise, thank you friend!

Real mail is completely wonderful; a way to send someone tangible love without having to buy a plane ticket. It is very personal to send and heartwarming to receive. Go drop a postcard in the mail and make someone’s day!
