Costume art

December 14, 2012 § 2 Comments

My pictures here stink. I bought 54 discs from Pakistan. I was told they came off of belly dancing costumes. They winged their way to me sifting bits of exotic dirt and smelling of tea and herbs. I completely love these things. I bought a multiple of 9 so I could frame them nine at a time, but ended up pinning them in a line across my whole bedroom wall. I think a giant poster shape would be a better display when we move. They are made of glass and stone beads and heavy wool. They have cracked little mirrors and strings sticking out. Each is intricate and so bright. My favorite is the middle picture, middle disc; yellow ring and orange diamonds.

Pinterest project- hang it all

November 3, 2012 § Leave a comment

Things in my house always look best in repeat. Many frames, many jars, many ties.  A display of many similar items pulls things together and gives you big visual impact for your little objects. I love all the ceilings full of poufs or globes seen on pinterest. Have a collection of anything? Hang it from the ceiling. Instant art! I started with five objects. Several were thrifted and the big fish scale lamp I covered with dictionary pages over a year ago. This is our master bedroom. It is huge and empty. And I’ve come to realize that I’m going to need a lot more things to hang for this cluster to be filled out. But here is a start.

Spools

These are so pretty. I took the old string off, and am waiting for inspiration, probably will fill them with velvet ribbon and give them as gifts or something. They are about 4in high.

Hanging vines

Have you seen the Pottery Barn kids store this month? Lots of brown twisted paper trees and hanging twine vines.  This is a store display re-create. It would be way more effective with many more, but the kids were pleased. And they get another lesson that you don’t have to buy most things, you can make them!
