The workspace- and ladder chandelier

August 15, 2012 § 3 Comments

So the ladder I got this weekend, I cut it in half. Cringe! It was hard to do, so beautiful it was. But the two halves are perfectly at home in new places. I sanded them and wiped them down and put on a sealer. I hung one above my worktable, and I thought I’d show you this space. Because it is my favorite. 27 square feet of lovely color and inspired order that makes creating easy. The room is on the main floor right by the living room and 15 feet from the kitchen. So convenient. I always work to place the making space and the kids play and school room right in the main living area. Neither of them works well in the basement or a bedroom. Soon the ladder will be hung with half done projects and inspiration ideas.

That is a cape in progress.

And lest you think all is perfect, here is the other two-thirds of the room. Theology library, music room, electronic and computer workstation, waiting to be craigslisted repository, and ironing spot. I’m working on that blank wall. Do you see that soup crock on a plaque? My husband is a really good cook and won that chili award. His interests are so varied. He needs a wall of memories and appreciations.

I didn’t buy anything today at the thrift shop. And have you noticed that when you are looking for something you never find it?

Here is an awesome paddle ball set. I love the graphics. $6.

I might regret not buying these foxes. They were cute and clean and what  a lot of work someone did!

Embroidery the beautiful

I completely love this needlework pattern. Though this embroidery piece is from the 1970s and seems to be quite common, (I’ve found two of these bonsai beauties), the colors are vibrant and the little tree is perky and pretty, especially in this wooden frame. I’ve hung two bonsai on my gallery wall, but this one is for sale.

Here are my bonsai:

Litho print

Thrifted this week, a litho print by Jean Adams. It is the colors that I love. And that it looks like a Mrs Piggle Wiggle illustration. It cost me $3. And fit itself into the playroom effortlessly.

This is what we buy for the kids to draw on. They are prolific artists in this phase of life and go through many sheets each day. $3. Cheap and plentiful.

Pinterest project- lobster

An easy hand and footprint lobster from my pinterest “to make” board. Red paint and the squirmy appendages of three kids make a cute critter memory to look back on.

Pinterest project- awesome sauce!

May 11, 2012 § 4 Comments

This took me a few tries, a painted canvas hot sauce love note! I first saw this card and placed it on my pinterest “to make” board. I think it caught my eye because my husband consumes a lot of hot sauce and the Sriracha bottle is so iconic. My canvas is 8×10″ and as always I sketch very carefully to get shape and scale right. The lettering was tricky, I tried to mask my letters with painters tape, but it was so thin that the paint leaked under so I redid the letters witha toothpick. The long skinny letter are my favorite part I believe.

And now it hangs on the “I love daddy” wall.
