Pinterest project- places we love
May 4, 2012 § 1 Comment
Hearts and maps go together so well, speaking wordlessly of the places you love or that have significance to you. There are tons of happy DIY projects with maps on pinterest. See here and here. So I got a US atlas and world atlas at Goodwill, about $2, cut out hearts of our places of birth and places we’ve lived, and put together a shadow box using one I’ve had stashed forever and a bit of blue painted artboard. It is personal and colorful and goes beautifully in a memory filled gallery.
It also makes a terrific gift!
One man’s trash

One of my favorite finds in college. For some reason a friend and I were walking a rural road and saw a ramshackle shed. Which we explored to find all kinds of junk including a rusted lawnmower. I took this bit of it, a little lidded box with holes. I put a metal sheet in the bottom and sanded the rust off. And used a finishing spray. I’ve been using it for a jewelry box ever since.
Mail fun

Mail is my favorite. Sending is the best, but receiving is pretty great too. I love old fashioned letters and hand wrapped goodies and postcards made of cereal boxes. I love the process of getting the mail from the box and sorting it and putting each bit in its place. I even love our grumpy and slow post office.
I thought this was a box of breath mints. But it was this little old tin…
…full of lovely old buttons! What a perfect surprise, thank you friend!
Real mail is completely wonderful; a way to send someone tangible love without having to buy a plane ticket. It is very personal to send and heartwarming to receive. Go drop a postcard in the mail and make someone’s day!
Paisley printer

This wasn’t thrifted. It was my only purchase during a remarkably calm trip with the kids to the antique store. Kids and antique stores don’t mix. but with Starburst and a mini Boggle game and Angry birds we can power through!
It’s a wallpaper print block, or a sari stamp. I just love the paisley and can’t wait to messily print some stationery! Such an item makes beauty and is beautiful itself. It has a big handle on the back and the wood is all black and smooth and lovely. And I’ve been looking at such stamps online, but this one is more reasonable than I could find there.

I loved this at first sight. Happy and foody and a little bit chippy. The scallops are perfect. It will be great hung on a wall and I’ve added it to my etsy shop.
