Girly shirt and sneak peek!

July 31, 2012 § 2 Comments

$2 Boden shirt. I do love these branded items. First because there is a certain assumption of quality that can be made about the better brands. And second because I love looking through the catalogs that come in the mailbox but choose not to afford the clothes in them. So I really love getting a good brand at thrift store prices.

Also, can you spot the new finished sewing project? Stay tuned!

I didn’t buy anything today at the thrift shop. And have you noticed that when you are looking for something you never find it?

Here is an awesome paddle ball set. I love the graphics. $6.

I might regret not buying these foxes. They were cute and clean and what  a lot of work someone did!

Embroidery the beautiful

July 23, 2012 § Leave a comment

I completely love this needlework pattern. Though this embroidery piece is from the 1970s and seems to be quite common, (I’ve found two of these bonsai beauties), the colors are vibrant and the little tree is perky and pretty, especially in this wooden frame. I’ve hung two bonsai on my gallery wall, but this one is for sale.

Here are my bonsai:

Skirted

Thrifted this week: a Laura Ashley skirt. I seldom have time to try things on while shopping, so clothes for me from a thrift store are a rare thing. This makes me feel feminine and I love the medallion fabric. I’ll make it into a dress for my girly when I tire of it. $6.

More of the ties

I had to. They are just so beautiful, and $1 apiece. Just look at that texture! I like the toile-like horseback scene one. And the one with Roman soldiers. See more of the ties here.

Found in Kentucky

July 14, 2012 § 1 Comment

While visiting my parents recently I spent an hour in a really truly junk shop. Exploding overflowing overwhelming piles of all kinds of flotsam. I didn’t find anything I wanted. I could really see anything for all the stuff in the way!

Seen at Home Goods. Chenille bedspreads. The old fashioned ones grandma had with textured designs.

Useful things, all about $.99, but I’m trying to not buy stuff I won’t use right away. Oh the thrill of the find!

Pinterest project- succulent hostess gifts

July 13, 2012 § 1 Comment

The drought friendly symmetry of succulents is very much in vogue this year. Lots of trendy home decor stores have stocked them and I can not get enough of their blossomy shape. On our recent spring/summer wandering, we spent 52 days and over 7000 miles enjoying new places and people. I brought along planted cups of succulents to leave with some of our gracious hosts. Pinterest shows many images of the beautiful plants. I ordered a box of 36 assorted succulents from Amazon here. Though it arrived badly bashed, the plants were packed pretty well, and most survived transplanting and thrived.

I used a glass bit to drill holes in thrifted pots and dishes, and got the colorful mugs from Marshalls. Succulents are planted in special soil which I got at my local nursery and seems to be crushed rock. They must drain well. I covered the soil with gravel, which makes it look pretty and professional.

I carried them in a crate in the car and they traveled beautifully. They can take the heat of a hot car and only need to be watered about once a week! Here you see them in our car contents on the right.

Litho print

Thrifted this week, a litho print by Jean Adams. It is the colors that I love. And that it looks like a Mrs Piggle Wiggle illustration. It cost me $3. And fit itself into the playroom effortlessly.
