Gleanings

Here’s what I found this week. A leather dress-up belt for kids fancy outfits, $.50. A round framed tile that I will probably repaint with something else and hang. I like the shape, $3. And the lid only for my tangerine Pyrex dish.  I’ve been seeking to find it for a while now, $.50.

Alphabet cards

Thrifted as a complete set, 226 fun alphabet flashcards with cute graphics and pithy sayings. Added to my etsy shop. Would be great with pieces in a gallery wall.

The pot place

With the seasonal trend encouraging plants in the home, look no further than your local thrift store for a huge selection of potting and display options. These cost from $.50-$2 and include a sugar bowl. There are so many shapes and colors to be mixed and matched!  The plants are from Ikea. I love my bit of green in the kitchen.

Corky

I thrifted this bunch of large corks. They were strung on a rope. They were once for stopping up demijohns of wine, and have a hole for an airlock while the wine ferments. They are all different diameters but one fit my damigiana from Italy perfectly! I hope to use the rest in cork art, kind of like this from my pinterest “to make” board. Colanders

These were thrifted at different times and cost about $6 each. I love enamel, I love color, and I love how repeating objects become art. They live on a bench in the playroom by the window and currently hold stamps and wooden cars. Someday maybe I’ll use them for planters like this one via apartment therapy.

Pinterest project- pink elephant

April 6, 2012 § 2 Comments

The first time I saw this elephant collage I wanted to make it. It started as a pin on my “walls” board via etsy. The brilliant artist uses paper to collage her animal works of art.

I printed a picture of it and cut apart each section to duplicate it in fabric. I grey painted a canvas for the base.

I very much love it. I am not an artist so I must carefully measure and sketch designs to get what I want.
